The Bankhead Highway

A short article announcing the formation of the Bankhead Highway Association.

― from The New York Times, September 9 1917.

The co-operation of the Federal Government with the States in road building is being conducted under the terms of a law for which Senator John H. Bankhead of Alabama was the sponsor. On account of his prominence in this work, the Bankhead Highway Association has been organized by prominent citizens of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi, for the purpose of promoting the construction of a highway from Memphis by way of Birmingham to Atlanta, to be called the Bankhead Highway.
